A company called Source has developed a commercially available technology to extract pure water from the air and sunlight. The technology uses a “hydropanel”, similar to a solar panel, to extract water from the air, to add minerals to the water, and to then condense the water and dispense it within the home or commercial enterprise.
This is done completely off-grid, avoiding adding stresses to the existing water infrastructure or aquifers, and avoiding the risks of lead or other contaminants from existing infrastructure.
The technology is available for either residential or commercial use, and simply requires a southeast facing solar exposure. Source hydropanels have been implemented in many different locations in the US and other countries, ranging from the east coast, west coasts, midwest, and southwest deserts, in urban areas, and in remote locations.
Use of Atmospheric Water Generator is not a new technology. This technology was used by the Incas to collect water vapor in the air and to save it in cisterns. In modern times, several different forms of Atmospheric Water Generators, using condensation and dessicant methods of collecting water, are used by the military as well as FEMA to provide on-the-spot clean drinking water without existing infrastructure.
This technology allows a low-energy method of supplying clean drinking water that does not add to the existing stresses on water systems, and does not deplete underground water sources.
